Undoubtedly, one of the most sought-after species within its genus, this particular species hails from the humid slopes of the Atlantic mountains in Espirito Santo, Brazil, making it the southernmost Canistrum variety. It is a petite plant, typically reaching a maximum height of 12 inches, forming a compact rosette of robust, broadly triangular leaves adorned with striking dark blackish mottling on a light green background. The leaf edges are adorned with prominent black spines. Being stoloniferous, it thrives when mounted or cultivated in hanging baskets. Its exquisite appearance is truly captivating. During flowering, it produces a charming tulip-shaped inflorescence in shades of rose-red and white. This species is not commonly found in collections, adding to its allure.
